100 Things About Me in 100 Days: # 7

I am 21 years old, just about to graduate from college and I don't have a license. I don't have a car either.

I don't have a license mostly because no one will teach me how to drive. I sort of know how to drive, but no one took the time to teach me all I needed to know to pass the driver's test. I don't want a 100% on the test, I just want to pass. When you think about it though, it's really hard to (a) teach someone how to drive and (b) lend them your car to test drive with.

You really have to trust them with something that is worth money, let alone your car and what it could mean for you (transportation to work, etc.). I also really don't feel like I have enough time to learn how to drive. It really takes a lot of time and effort to go out there test drive and learn.

I've gotten a few promises to teach me how to drive, but they really are empty promises because no one follows through with them. My fiance has even said he would teach me how to drive, but to tell the truth I don't know if I want him to teach me how to drive. I don't like the way he drives because he kind of rides the break a little and is very inconsistent with his gas pressure, the amount of pressure he puts on the gas so the car can go without losing momentum. In order to understand what kind of driver he is, imagine yourself in the car with someone who is listening to music and taps their foot to the rhythm of the music, only the foot they are tapping with is the one they have on gas.

I don't really have a strong desire to learn how to drive also because of the costs associated with driving. I would have to have a car I can not afford, buy insurance that I also could not afford, gasoline, maintenance, etc. There are a lot of costs associated with driving that I just can't take on right now. I also live in a town with a good mass transportation system that I frequently take advantage of. I can get to the grocery store and the bank using the bus. I also had an internship that I used the bus to get to and from AND I took a class at another university where, guess what I used to get there? The bus.

So there you have it, why I do not drive in a nutshell.
