Why do we like quotes so much? I don't know, but here are some pretty good ones I've come across lately. These are in no particular order, I'd say they are random but I don't believe in randomness.
Indira Gandhi - You cannot shake hands with a clenched fist.
Ellen DeGeneres - My grandmother started walking five miles a day when she was sixty. She's ninety-seven now, and we don't know where the hell she is.
Mel Brooks - Every human being has hundreds of separate people living under his skin. The talent of a writer is his ability to give them their separate names, identities, personalities and have them relate to other characters living with him.
Henry Youngman - I told the doctor I broke my leg in two places. He told me to quit going to those places.
Paula Poundstone - My mom said she learned how to swim. Someone took her out in the lake and threw her off the boat. That's how she learned how to swim. I said, "Mom, they weren't trying to teach you how to swim."
Stewart L. Udall - We have, I fear, confused power with greatness.
Louis Pasteur - Chance favors the prepared mind.
Louis Pasteur - Fortune favors the prepared mind.
(So which is it???)
Bertrand Russell - Men are born ignorant, not stupid. They are made stupid by education.
Bertrand Russell - Most people would sooner die than think; in fact, they do so.
I thought those last 2 were pretty good.
Well, those are all my interesting quotes for now. I'm surprised that this site has so many Bertrard Russell quotes (you'll notice that he has more quotes than each of the other people linked here), on the site they even have a section about mathematics - isn't that nice?
