I came back!

Well, I came back a while ago, I just didn't want to post anything this week because things have been so busy. Very much like some posts I've seen at Learning Curves I will be posting a quick list of things going on so you feel updated on my venture through life :).

  • Today I'm going to David's Bridal to try on some Bridal Dresses and I'm taking a few of my best friends with me for moral support
  • While I've got wedding on the brain, I am seriously considering asking one of my Maids of Honor to stepdown completely and not be part of the wedding at all. There's a long involved story that goes with this, a related post is here.
  • I hit an amazing breakthrough in my research, I know I haven't published the problem but that's probably because I don't want someone to either (a) ruin it for me or (b) find the same results I did and possibly go through the same process I am to present it at the Joint Meetings, which would be sad (imho)...
  • Weirdo Physics teacher went to visit his mom or something and gave us a quiz, even with triple checking my answers for numerical errors, I still got out of the quiz first. He gave back some assignments and past labs, my partner and I got a 97 or 93 or something on the lab, I got a 76 on the math review assignment because he's picky as hell. This is the instructor that also says, "every graph can be plotted as a linear graph..." which totally doesn't account for KNOWING YOUR FUNCTIONS and being SMART about things you know. What effectively he told me? Forget all the past instruction you've had on things related to Physics, I want everything to be consistent with the way we're going through it in class...
  • I'm also reconsidering the list I created with the schools I want to apply to. I'm not sure about a lot of things right now, and where to go after graduation is one of them. I'm afraid of not getting accepted and of not getting any money to go anywhere. I'm a female hispanic going into mathematics, but I haven't found any fellowships for me to tell the truth. I see a big step away from funding for pure mathematicians because I guess committees think we're not the same as applied mathematicians (which is true) and can do things on our own (which is not true). I need funding, if anyone knows of good funding sources please e-mail me.

So those are the most updated things going on in my life right now. Besides a few extraneous things of course, my life has been centering around school again, which is exciting and scary at the same time. Post comments liberally... - V.
