Did I tell you I got a new private tutoring client?
Yeah, so today was my first day with that. It went really well.
He's going into the 9th grade and his parents want him to take AP courses in mathematics later in his academic career. This means lots of tutoring for me until I figure out exactly what he does and does not know.
The real thing he needs to find out is how to read specific problem types. There are many standard problem types, things that need specific math "tools" to be able to be done.
All of them require thinking and analyzing a situation.
The good news is that this kid has great analyzation skills, which will help him a lot in life and in math (not to say that math and life are mutually exclusive, because they are not).
Any questions? ;)
